'Here' being Mark Annand's 'Help' resource ...

Personal computers cost upwards of seven six five whatever ... hundred pounds to buy, and rather more in support costs before they expire: when you're stuck with something to do with email or web, before taking an axe to the screen in frustration, have a look in here first, and if it doesn't help please tell me. It will make you feel better about things and help the next person too.

To January 22nd 2013: various edits and weeding of info about wireless networks: eduroam is now favoured for staff and students.

To September 26th 2012: embed a twitter feed in a Minerva module

To September 25th 2012: edits plus notes on Eduroam, open access printing, open access scanning, improvements to the resource on Minerva including help for students and on submitting work/receiving feedback from tutors - and a newsletter.

To July 16th 2012: edits including to the web site + Orchard info pages. Changed address to point editors to the live web site for editing purposes.

To June 3rd 2012. Info on editing the 2012 BSU web site using Orchard.

To May 22nd 2012. Edits + info on Eduroam for University staff and students.

March 6th 2012. Reinstated info on how to delete submitted student work to allow for resubmission.

March 3rd 2012. Pages on Blackboard Mobile learn - for students and for academic staff. Minerva resource rebuilt for SP8, temporarily on this link.

To February 9th 2012. Edits, changes in navigation, more alignmnent of palette with BSU 2012 branding, added copy of twitter guide for HE from the LSE public policy group. Also the start of a page on Ezproxy.

January 13th 2012. Info added on synching multiple calendars to mobile devices

January 11th 2012. Link added to quick links bar: the hub.

January 9th 2012. Information for new staff refreshed

January 3rd 2012. The search. Healed the HTML template for it, corrected advice to new staff on email as that had escaped the cull.

December 23rd. Swapped round some css and then stripped out 1423 instances of a redundant style on dt. :-)

December 19th. Tweak to ecdl including directions to workshops for staff working away from Newton Park ...

November 1st. Advice on miscreancy. Caution on naming SULIS courses, the name you give them needs to be at least five characters long ...

October 20th. Updates to email info including something on 'Postini', our backup service.

October 17th. Information to track an issue with Gmail.

October 2nd. Gmail email login info page changed as a result of a late change to the process.

September 29th. Email resource strengthened and specific help on mailfetcher added - allows students in particular to fetch email arriving at their @bathspa.org accounts.

September 20th. Repaired the main menu as inconsistencies had crept in to the use of the class="current" highlight. Then, switched out silly old main menu item 'Web help' in favour of a new one 'Google Apps' ...

September 8th. Newsletter and more work to Bath Spa Gmail help

September 2nd. Renewed help for email as we will all shortly be using Gmail at Bath Spa. A work in progress.

August 2nd. Help pages for Bristol Online Surveys.

August 1st. Updates and wiki link added to iPad page.

July 29th. New pointers for OS X Lion including info on saving files.

March 25th. Expunged the term 'Floppy disk' and 'Zip disk' from a couple of crevices ... eight instances ... before you think that that means the authors are hillbillies living in some shack in the woods, Office 2010 uses a floppy disk icon for 'File/Save' ...

March 24th. Link added to this: Ipad: use in education: help site (External link).

March 17th. Added info on Word forms.

March 15th. Updated student network drive info.

March 11th. Useability improvements. (Emphasis on headings, emphasis on quick links, emphasis on home page links box)

March 11th. Video guidance for the module evaluation questionnaire for students added, videos courtesy of Graham Morgan.

March 3rd. A to Z accessibility: 'Summary' attribute pulled (it didn't validate) and replaced with a 'Caption' tag for the table.

March 2nd. Various wiki links edited to repoint them to changed pages there, associated information pulled.

To February 7th. Fixed some fugly horkage in the Minerva quick start guide. The CSS faux image map for some reason thought it was 9 em left of where it was. Probably after the recent tweak to the layout to fix the right hand margin.

To February 4th. VPN connection info from Windows XP improved.

To January 28th. Info on rtf email and why it's not good here.

To January 27th. Much improved information on using SULIS to share common material among several SITS modules. More connectivity built to SULIS page as people were finding it hard to link from Minervery stuff.

To January 21st. Updated info on students: how students can view marked work

To January 17th. Updated several things to do with backups ...

To January 13th. Reviewed the Mac office 2011 page. Enhanced the information on getting going with Outlook, particularly from the point of view of people used to Entourage.

To January 12th. Updated various information on the PDF / mobile devices / Confluence Wiki / Minerva alignment as people need this info to help use less paper (and more aluminium).

To January 10th. Improved Messagelabs info as I find more ...

Jan 4th. Trimmed CSS as something was upsetting flow / viewport width. Less is more. Probably broken things for IE7 ...

To Jan 4th. EProc. Added link and pointer to in built help to eProc page.

To December 21st. Tweaking drive mapping information to make it more inclusive, i.e. of Apple users. Shared drive list needs WMS 162267 to complete.

To December 17th. Various edits, and image on home page changed to something appropriate to the season.

November 22nd. Info on Outlook 2011 for Mac and the 'Can't open a new message' problem - solved by a safari update.

Note added to help students connect to email using iPhone/Touch.

Page edited in prep for Messagelabs spam filter.

Coherence added to Turnitin info for staff, also to grade centre info - and student Minerva help reinstated with additional specific info about viewing feedback.

To March 10th 2010 Info added to the unified comms resource including a simple login page, and more on voicemail including alternate greetings.

February 2010 - new resource on the University's phone system - which will actually become a Unified Comms system.

December 2009 - Search put through the wringer to improve its focus and presentation. Atomz now has the site template (there's a copy in the root folder called search-results.html - to cope with updates, do a 'Two-stage switch and copy', to rescue the customised Atomz search block from the remote copy of the template ...). The Atomz-specific <noindex> tag now wraps nav menu sections. (This breaks page validation but improves search.)

December 2009 - Wiki information improved again and linked from main menu.

November 2009 - Wiki information tweaked cruelly, and link added from masthead.

October 2009 - change to remove a border in the stylesheet 'cos IE6 and 7 aren't happy with it. Also, pages on Wikis released into the wild. ECDL training up and running again now.

May 2009 - minor change to code to remove the expression before the doctype declaration as IE8 isn't happy with it. Then reverted this later as it upset something else ... <?xml version="1.0"?><!-- This is here to negate ie6 text selection bug --> <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

August 2007 - Updates to the information on Minerva - to reflect what's changed with the August 2007 upgrade.

October 2006 - resource for Internet Explorer updated to reflect IE7.

July 2006 - New info and link to Student Portal from all pages as part of 'Quick links' bar on all pages. Info on ALERT team.

April 2006 - Reworked Minerva assignment submission info.

New for late spring 2003 - Improved navigation architecture. Are you using something other than 'IE on Windows'? Help yourself to a menu that stays put - set the alternate stylesheet (probably use your browser's 'View/...' menu for this ...

Improved printing - pages are now more printer friendly and provide clear layout with web site navigation suppressed ... here's a page with more on printing pages from this resource

New for Spring 2003 - new resource on Liquid Office and updates to other stuff.

New for Autumn 2002 - improved resource on Outlook and Webmail, updates to many pages, improvements to use of colour.

'One page help' on Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint. These are pretty thin at the moment, but if you've things you'd like me to add, please tell me. Thanks to everyone for contributions, suggestions and encouragement.
